Sample letter to members of EU Council in favour of Open Access in H2020

Dear

We are writing you to express our agreement with the mandatory open access policy in the Rules of Participation for Horizon 2020 that is now being negotiated in by the Council, the Commission and the European Parliament.

We feel that the dissemination of scientific ideas financed by European taxpayers is best served by a mandatory open access policy. This policy will strengthen both the level of excellence and the broad repercussion of Horizon 2020 in the fields of education and innovation. With this decision the EU will make a clear statement about the public interest objectives of the Horizon 2020 programme that is in line with the desires of the majority of European researchers and citizens.

Thank you very much,
